Leatherhead is the Business!

Leatherhead is the main commercial centre of the Mole Valley District. During the 1990's Leatherhead's business community has grown dramatically, and it is continuing to grow, with office and business park developments providing state-of-the-art accommodation for small to medium businesses. And it is not just the smaller boys that have seen why Leatherhead is such a good place in which to set up shop. The attraction of the town to businesses considering relocation or expansion has resulted in multi-international companies moving into the area.

Organizations such as Esso, Halliburton Brown and Root, and Dunlop Slazenger have set up new headquarters here joining high tech companies such as Logica, ERA Technology and other international Research and Technology organizations. This influx of affluent professional employees creates opportunities for the smaller retailer, particularly those offering up-market products and services.

The local economy is buoyant, with unemployment levels amongst the lowest in the UK. Studies by the Henley Centre show that the District performs well in terms of key drivers of economic growth such as industrial structure, quality of the labor force and social capital. The District Council provides stable and balanced local government with no one political faction exercising overall control. Continuous development of Leatherhead town centre and of the town's leisure facilities rank high on the Council's priorities.
