The United Kingdom ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENTIAL LETTING AGENTS
(UKALA) As a Landlord... In order to comply with UKALA’s
membership requirements, we have been formally interviewed to confirm
that the DOMUS letting agency meets the stringent code of conduct, holds
separate client accounts and demonstrate these are professionally managed
and audited; Domus holds professional indemnity insurance cover to comply
with the requirements of UKALA’s Fidelity Bond; and offers a full
management service to landlords in addition to letting and rent collection.
As a tenant, I want to rent. What should I ask?
First: Is the agent a member of UKALA? You will benefit from their experience,
professionalism and compliance with UKLA’s bye laws, regulations
and accounting procedures. Their professional indemnity insurance which
complies with the requirements of the Association’s Fidelity Bond
will protect your deposit. UKALA members are Code of Practice providing
a framework of ethical and professional standards at a level far higher
than the law demands
NATIONAL
ASSOCIATION OF ESTATE AGENTS NAEA members not only offer reassurance
to the property buying and selling public but also to those choosing
to let or rent a property. By instructing an NAEA agent who specialises
in lettings and management, landlords and tenants will be assured of
defined standards of customer service, experience and professionalism.
All principles, partners or directors have professional indemnity insurance
and will hold client monies in a separate account protected by a Clients’
Money Protection scheme.
The Association of Residential Lettings
Agents (ARLA)
Membership
ARLA has 1,500 member offices throughout the UK including large multi-branch
national companies as well as the smaller single office practices. Membership
is achieved only by agents who demonstrate that they have a thorough
knowledge of their profession and that they conduct their business according
to current best management practice.
ARLA members are governed by the Code of Practice
providing a framework of ethical and professional standards at a level
far higher than the law demands. The Association runs a series of meetings,
training courses and seminars at local and national levels to ensure
that members are kept fully up to date with the latest best practice.
Examinations are held regularly and membership rules require all member
offices to have professionally qualified staff by the year 2000. Members’
accounts are required to be audited annually ensuring that they conform
to stringent accounting practice.
